Note from David Pennefather's history:
(D14) Wilfred Edward Pennefather MBE, born 29th March 1898 Camberwell,
Melbourne. Private 30302, 56th Batt. 1st AIF in the Great War 1914-1918.
Known to have fought at Passchendael and served along side his brother
Frank in the trenches at Villers Breteneaux in 1918. Enlisted 1/8/1916 and
returned to Australia on the same ship as Frank on 2/6/1919. Too young to
enlist he falsified his fathers signature giving approval for him to join up.
Married Margaret “Margot” Busby fourth daughter of Dr Hugh Busby of
Bathurst NSW. Noted sheep classer taking over most of his fathers clientele
when HCP went into semi-retirement during the late 1920’s. Served in the
2nd AIF during the Second World War. For many years owned his own
property, Maneela, near Bathurst. 1982 awarded MBE for a life time of
service to the Australian Pastoral Industry. Wilf died in Sydney on 18th
August 1995 during his 97th year. His son Hugh and wife Margot had both
